Next Gen NYC Star Ava Dash Opens Up About Complicated Past with Dad Damon Dash Amid Divorce and Custody Battle With Mom Rachel Roy

Ava Dash, a cast member of the reality TV series Next Gen NYC, recently spoke about her past relationship with her father, music executive Damon Dash, during an interview on the podcast On More Life with Carl Radke.

She recalled taking care of her younger sister after their parents got divorced, saying, “It was hard,” because "she’s eight years younger than me, so I feel like she’s like my daughter.” Ava remembered helping her dad potty train her sister, noting that he was frustrated by the situation: “ helped my dad potty train her cause he was so annoyed that she was still in diapers.”

When asked if she felt caught in the middle of her parents’ custody battle, Ava explained that she had been involved since childhood. She chose to begin paying her own bills around age 16 or 17, stating, “You guys leave me out of it.”

In discussing her views on her parents’ divorce, Ava surprised some listeners by expressing happiness about the event at the time. She attributed this feeling to seeing her parents arguing constantly, saying, “They’re just not meant for each other. They’re not each other’s person, and they would fight all the time.”

Regarding her thoughts on her parents' parenting skills, Ava offered a nuanced perspective: “This is his first time on earth. Same with my mom. They’re trying their best,” suggesting she acknowledges their imperfections while accepting their intentions.
