Teresa Giudice Discusses Federal Fraud Case Resulting in Prison Stay

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Teresa Giudice spoke publicly about the federal fraud case that landed her in prison for 11 months in 2015. She revealed why she continued appearing on The Real Housewives of New Jersey while under investigation.

"I really never in a million years thought I would go to jail," Giudice said. When asked if she would accept $40 million to avoid imprisonment, she replied, "$40 million right now? No, absolutely not. I thought I just had to go through the process and then everything would be fine."

Giudice acknowledged that she initially believed the charges against her weren't serious, recalling, "I thought it was a joke." She maintained that she hadn't done anything wrong because she signed paperwork during property closings, trusting the professionals involved. "That's what I did," she said. "I went to a refinance for a home for a closing. That's all I did."

The legal battle resulted in long-term consequences for the Giudice family, including Joe completing his prison term before being deported to Italy in 2019 because he is not a U.S. citizen. The couple later divorced in 2020 after nearly two decades of marriage.
