Frederik Berner Kühl Wins Denmark’s Largest Fashion Prize

Denmark’s leading menswear designer, Frederik Berner Kühl, took home the top prize at the country's most prestigious fashion award, worth $46,000. The honor comes as menswear dominates the current fashion conversation.

Kühl's brand stands out for its commitment to confident, expertly crafted designs with a focus on durability over fleeting trends. Established in 2019, the label has since developed a distinctive aesthetic that balances Scandinavian minimalism with traditional tailoring techniques. Kühl's dedication to quality and timeless style shines through in every garment.

Accepting the award, Kühl reflected on the challenges of building a successful business: “It takes sacrifice, it’s a lot of hard work, you need grit and dedication to keep it going.” Despite these obstacles, Kühl remained optimistic, saying “on days like this, it is” worthwhile.

Growing up in Scandinavia, Kühl was immersed in both interior design and architecture, which significantly influenced his approach to fashion. After completing his studies at Polimoda, Kühl opened a small boutique-style store in 2021.

This year, the Wessel & Vett Prize introduced changes to its evaluation process. Jurors spent extensive time reviewing each nominee's workspace before conferring the top award upon Kühl. Additionally, the competition awarded €10,000 to all four finalists, including Kühl, Bonnetje, Caro Editions, and O. Files. Upon receiving the accolade, Kühl expressed appreciation for the support: “We need to take this to the next level, and the prize will help us do that.”

As Kühl's brand grows, so too does its presence within the industry. One thing is certain – this achievement marks an important milestone for men's wear designers and cements Kühl's position among the best.
