Selena Gomez and Mother Named in Fraud Lawsuit Over Startup

Pop star Selena Gomez and her mother, Mandy Teefey, have been named in a fraud lawsuit over their startup, Wondermind. According to court documents, investors were misled into believing the company was successful when in reality it was struggling financially.

In a statement, Gomez's lawyer, Mathew S. Rosengart, called the lawsuit "completely meritless" both factually and legally. He stated that the allegations would be vigorously defended and that a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against Gomez has been planned.

The lawsuit alleges that Gomez and Teefey misrepresented the infrastructure, leadership, and resources needed to launch a profitable platform at Wondermind's launch. Court documents also show that none of the founders, officers, or directors spoke up about the financial struggles for three years, leaving investors unaware of the problems facing the company.

Investors claim they invested over $1 million into Wondermind based on false representations made by Gomez and Teefey. They further allege that they learned about Wondermind's struggles through a 2025 exposé in The Cut, which reported the company was allegedly in a state of "utter disarray."

Wondermind was founded in 2022 as a multimedia platform designed to offer mental health support. However, nearly three years later, Forbes reported that Wondermind allegedly laid off 60 percent of its staff due to financial issues. Despite these troubles, a spokesperson for the company claimed that any outstanding financial debts had been rectified.

Rosengart's motion to dismiss the claims against Gomez is expected to be filed soon, following the standard procedure for dealing with such lawsuits. For now, it appears that the outcome of this case may have far-reaching consequences for Wondermind and its stakeholders.
