Melissa Rycroft Avoids Jail Time After Guilty Plea in DWI Case

Melissa Rycroft, a 43-year-old former Dancing With the Stars champion, has pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in a case dating back to 2025. Court documents reveal that Rycroft agreed to serve 20 months of probation instead of the initially threatened 280 days in jail. She must also pay a $2,000 fine, complete 36 hours of community service within 120 days, attend a DWI education program, and use a camera-equipped ignition interlock device in her vehicle.

The DWI incident occurred in Texas, where Rycroft's blood alcohol concentration was reported at.26 percent – more than three times the permissible limit. Charged with a Class A misdemeanor, Rycroft chose the plea agreement to avoid potential jail time.

On social media, Rycroft reflected on the situation, writing, “Life really sucks right now and I’m struggling, but I’m trying to march forward.” This sentiment resonated with some of her supporters, who offered encouraging comments in response.

A former Bachelor contestant turned reality TV personality, Rycroft won season 16 of Dancing With the Stars with partner Tony Dovolani. Her recent sentence marks a significant development in a case that has been ongoing since her initial arrest. With a judge approving the plea deal on August 10, 2026, Rycroft will navigate the terms of her probation over the next two years.
