Teri Hatcher is set to take on one of the most coveted roles in the West End, replacing Vanessa Williams as the iconic fashion editor Miranda Priestly in the production of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical.

Hatcher will begin her run on October 20th, marking a significant change for the long-running show. According to an Instagram announcement by the production team, Hatcher's stint is currently set to continue until February 6, 2027, with Debbie Kurup filling the role in the meantime.

In a statement to Hello! magazine, Hatcher expressed her excitement about taking on the role, saying "I've experienced and grown so much, and I get to bring all of that into my Devil Wears Prada performance. I feel like this is a gift for me, to arrive into a Teri Hatcher that I haven’t got to be yet, and I’m so excited for it."

It seems that Hatcher's enthusiasm stems from her family's involvement. Her daughter Emerson, 28, has attended a performance at the Dominion Theatre and was instrumental in convincing her mother to accept the role. In fact, it was Emerson who initially encouraged Hatcher to consider the part, having seen Vanessa Williams' performance and raved about it to her mother. As Hatcher recalled, "She said that her daughter ‘saw Vanessa in it and said it was great, so when the opportunity came my way, she was the first person to say: ‘Oh my god, you have to do it, you’re going to have so much fun.'"

The stage musical draws inspiration from Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel and its 2006 film adaptation, which became a global box-office hit, grossing $326 million worldwide and earning two Academy Award nominations. Meryl Streep played Miranda Priestly in the film, cementing the character's status as an icon of high fashion.

Hatcher's background in playing strong, dynamic characters makes her a natural fit for the role of Miranda Priestly. She shot to fame as Susan Mayer on Desperate Housewives, a role she played from 2004 to 2012. Prior to that, she starred as Lois Lane opposite Dean Cain in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman during the 1990s, and even took on the role of Bond girl Paris Carver in Tomorrow Never Dies, starring opposite Pierce Brosnan in the 1997 James Bond film.

Vanessa Williams, whose final performance in the role is scheduled for September 19, leaves behind big shoes to fill. But with Hatcher taking over, audiences can expect a fresh take on the beloved character.
