King Charles III Plans Joint Event Honoring Princess Diana

A new report suggests that King Charles III plans to bring Prince Harry and Prince William closer together through a joint event honoring their late mother, Princess Diana. The British monarch believes a remembrance of their mother can help heal the rift between his children.

One notable example of how a shared celebration can bring his sons closer together is the unveiling of a statue of Princess Diana at Kensington Palace in 2021. On that occasion, both princes attended the event, marking one of the last times they appeared together in public. More recently, Prince Harry and Prince William were photographed in the same room at their father's coronation in May 2023, although they did not interact during the event. They also saw each other again in August 2024 at the private funeral of their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes.

Prince Harry has been vocal about his desire to reconcile with his family. After his father announced his cancer diagnosis in 2024, Prince Harry stated on the BBC, “I would love reconciliation with my family.” He added, “There’s no point in continuing to fight. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. It would be nice to reconcile.”

Despite Prince Harry's efforts, Prince William remains less open to a reunion. He is still stung by the public accusations made by his brother and wife Meghan Markle following their decision to step back from royal duties in 2020. However, sources indicate that the planned event is set to resemble a similar ceremony held in 2007 to mark the tenth anniversary of Princess Diana's death. At that time, her favorite music was played inside the Guards Chapel at Wellington Barracks, and Prince Harry addressed the assembled crowd.

The plan includes organizing a thanksgiving ceremony, which the King reportedly does not object to. If carried out, this could provide a chance for Prince William to put aside his reservations and work towards healing the rift with his brother.

It appears that King Charles' goal is to reunite his sons through a shared celebration, creating a more positive and supportive environment where they can reconnect and move forward together. This development follows their recent appearances together, including at the unveiling of their mother's statue in 2021, the coronation in 2023, and the funeral of Lord Robert Fellowes in 2024.
