The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City didn’t slowly grow into one of Bravo’s wildest franchises.
It arrived unwell.
And we mean that affectionately.

#10: Mary Cosby Tells Jen Shah She Smells Like Hospital
Most Housewives franchises require a little time before finding their rhythm.
Salt Lake City needed approximately one episode.
Mary Cosby and Jen Shah entered Season 1 already carrying an absolutely bizarre disagreement.
Mary had commented that Jen smelled “like hospital.”
Normally, that sentence would be ridiculous enough to end the story.

They still couldn’t agree about exactly what Mary said, whom she said it to or how Jen should have interpreted it.

Because it taught us exactly what kind of franchise we’d signed up for.
The argument was simultaneously absurd and genuinely emotional.
Mary felt misunderstood.
Jen felt insulted.
Everyone else was dragged into figuring out what had happened.
Even when the cast appeared on Watch What Happens Live after the premiere, Mary and Jen were still arguing about it.

#9: Meredith Marks Gives Us “Rumors and Nastiness”
You can leave.
Actually, first let’s discuss the rumors.
Season 4’s Palm Springs trip was already awkward because Whitney Rose invited Angie Katsanevas onto a trip Meredith Marks had organized despite Angie and Meredith being in a bad place.
Meredith was delighted.
That sentence is false.
At dinner, Angie’s toast included a dig at Meredith, and their simmering conflict erupted. Meredith repeatedly told Angie she could leave.
Angie declined the invitation to leave the invitation she hadn’t actually received.
Meredith then attempted to have her removed, apparently asking restaurant employees for help before eventually leaving herself.
And then things became immortal.

Outside the restaurant, Meredith told Lisa Barlow that there were “rumors and nastiness” involving Angie and suggested there were things she could discuss about Angie’s husband.
Bravo later turned the phrase into official merchandise.

The actual rumors should be treated exactly as that: rumors. Meredith later said at the reunion that rumors existed about multiple people and attempted to clarify what she’d meant.

#8: Heather Gay Wakes Up With the Black Eye
Season 3 gave RHOSLC a mystery nobody could stop talking about.
Heather Gay went to bed during the San Diego cast trip.
She woke up with a black eye.
What happened?
Well.
That became complicated.
Heather initially refused to provide a clear explanation. She offered conflicting comments, joked about possible causes and left both her castmates and viewers trying to determine what had happened.
The mystery continued through the Season 3 reunion.
Then, during the Season 4 finale, Heather finally made a stunning claim.
She said Jen Shah had given her the black eye.
Why the black eye became bigger than the injury
The real controversy became Heather’s handling of it.

Meredith Marks told Angie she could leave Palm Springs.
Apparently Angie thought that was a one-time offer.
Season 5 proved otherwise.
During Meredith’s bat mitzvah celebration, tensions erupted and Angie was ultimately removed from the event.
Bravo later confirmed that security became involved after Meredith decided she wanted Angie gone. Angie said having security remove her was hurtful, particularly because she believed she’d previously welcomed Meredith into her own home despite their problems.
Meredith Marks does not bluff about exits
That’s what makes this moment so wonderfully connected to RHOSLC history.

Season 5:
No, seriously.

Before the Reality Von Tease reveal united several of the original women, Heather and Whitney had their own painful fracture.
They’d entered RHOSLC as cousins and close allies.
Lisa Barlow famously branded them “Bad Weather.”
They eventually embraced it.
Then Season 3 arrived.
During the Arizona trip, Whitney said Heather wasn’t backing her up about a rumor Whitney claimed they’d previously discussed concerning Lisa.
Heather said she didn’t remember the conversation.
The disagreement exploded into something much bigger about loyalty, friendship and whether Whitney could trust Heather.
Eventually, Heather kicked Whitney out of her house.
