Tony Romo Issued Citation for Refusing Intoxication Test

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, 46, has been issued a citation for refusing to take a test for intoxication following his arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

According to court records viewed by Us, Romo was arrested on Thursday, July 23, in Milwaukee, after allegedly failing field sobriety tests at the scene of his arrest. He had been pulled over around 8 p.m. after participating in the 2026 Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament.

A court date has been set for September 21.

Romo finished in a tie for 73rd place at the tournament, with a score of 35-over-par. His worst score of the week was an 82, which occurred on the day of his arrest.

Since retiring from the NFL in 2016, Romo has worked alongside announcer Jim Nantz on CBS Sports' No. 1 NFL broadcast crew. The network has not commented on whether Romo's involvement in the upcoming season may be affected by these allegations.

Us exclusively obtained video footage of Romo walking the course at the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament earlier this month, where he was accompanied by his brother-in-law, actor Chace Crawford. In recent interviews, Romo discussed regaining confidence in his golf game, stating that he feels more comfortable than ever behind the ball.

After suffering a wrist injury in 2020, Romo was forced to take nearly two years off from competitive golf. He resumed playing last winter and claimed to have turned a corner in terms of his performance, reducing practice swings and feeling more confident in his abilities.

The next step for Romo remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: his reputation as a skilled golfer faces scrutiny amid these allegations.
