On this season of The Real Housewives of New York City, Sai de Silva is going through a tough time with her now-estranged husband, David Craig. While Sai, 45, had opened up to some of her castmates about issues they were having, on last night's episode she found out that David had filed for divorce. This was not something she had known before finding out from people texting her, as it had been published online.
According to an interview on Bravo's RHONY After Show podcast, Sai explained how she discovered the news. "I asked for a separation," she began. "I asked him to go to mediation so we could do it privately, because I didn't want the world to know. More importantly, I didn't want the children to know quite yet. But I had no idea that this was coming."
Sai noted the timing of David's filing "felt calculated" to her. He wanted to have their children during spring break, which coincided with the day her aunt left, who served as her support system at the time. Sai expressed feeling taken aback by David's actions, stating that the experience "hit in the gut." She needed to speak with their daughter immediately, unsure if David had informed her of the divorce proceedings already.
Their daughter, however, took the situation in stride. As Sai recounted, "She. she's very grown up, and she took a sigh, and she took a beat, and she was just like, 'Are you okay?' And then she said, 'It's all right, Mommy. Like, it's going to be fine.' She was like, 'At least we can all be happy now.'"
Regarding communication after the discovery, Sai clarified that she did not reach out to David. Instead, she chose to focus on herself and their children. "In a way. he was reaching out for me to get a huge reaction," she said. "And in that moment, it was almost like I've disconnected from someone I've known for so many years that if you could do something like this to me like that, like in such a. I want to say disgusting way, cause that is what it is to me, then you know what? I'm moving forward, and all I care about are my children. And I didn't call."
Despite the difficult circumstances, Sai reported feeling "very supported" by some of her fellow cast members. She acknowledged that when this occurred, she "was not alone."
