Nick Lachey Reflects on Past Marriage to Jessica Simpson on Love Is Blind
Reality TV host Nick Lachey referenced his previous marriage to Jessica Simpson during a conversation on Love Is Blind. He explained how his experience ultimately helped him understand what he wants in a relationship.
In a discussion with contestant Erika Ellis, Lachey said, "Well, as some of you may know, I was previously married before I met my incredible wife." When advising Ellis on how to navigate her own past marriage history, Lachey offered this perspective: "I would make the very unique argument that it gives you a leg up because you know from that experience what it is you truly want."
His wife, Vanessa Lachey, reassured Ellis that having a previous marriage isn't something to be ashamed of. "We all have messy pasts, all of us," she noted.
Lachey and Simpson were married in 2002 and divorced in 2006. They documented their relationship on the MTV reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica from 2003 to 2005.
Later, while discussing his own divorce on Season 3 of Netflix’s The Ultimatum in 2024, Lachey acknowledged the pain he experienced. "I, too, was previously married, divorced, so I understand the hurt, the scars that exist from that," he said.
He encouraged contestants not to let their past define their future, saying, "Don’t let your past define your future." This sentiment aligns with his view on maintaining faith in relationships and family, which allowed him to build the life he now shares with Vanessa.
Lachey and Vanessa married in 2011 and have three children together. They continue to work as reality TV hosts on shows like Love Is Blind, where they've appeared since its premiere.
Months prior, Lachey and Simpson had an encounter on a flight to Hawaii. While describing the meeting, he called it “strangely OK,” noting everyone was “very, very cordial” and “respectful.”
