Sandra Bullock Opens Up About Keeping Late Partner Bryan Randall’s ALS Diagnosis Private
Sandra Bullock recently appeared on the SmartLess podcast, where she explained why she kept her late partner Bryan Randall's ALS diagnosis private. According to Bullock, Randall asked her not to share the news, and she respected his wish.
Bullock said, “He asked me not to share. I know why he asked me not to.”
While Bullock understood Randall's desire for privacy, she acknowledged that keeping the news secret also made her feel isolated. During that time, she was caring for Randall while raising her two children.
Bullock initially confided in only her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, about Randall's condition. Later, she opened up to a few close friends.
Looking back, Bullock recalled feeling a sense of mourning before Randall's death.
“I started grieving Brian four years before he passed,” she said. “There was something that had shifted.”
She noted the distinction between losing a loved one physically and emotionally.
“My person left a lot earlier than the body left. I don’t think I ever dealt with that until after he passed, because you’re just on this treadmill.”
Randall died on August 5, 2023, at age 57, following a nearly three-year battle with ALS. His family confirmed at the time that he chose to keep his illness private.
The couple began dating in 2015, when Randall photographed Bullock's son Louis' birthday party. They became publicly known as partners. Before his death, Bullock described Randall as the love of her life.
By sharing her story now, Bullock is giving a rare look into the period she kept hidden while honoring Randall's wishes.
