A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has allowed 13-year-old Maceo Martinez to testify in his parents' ongoing restraining order dispute, following conflicting accounts of an alleged September incident.
The ruling by Judge Shelley Kaufman came after both Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez presented their sides of the story. According to Martinez, he accused Berry of physically abusing their son during an incident on September 26, but Berry denies the allegations, claiming she was simply enforcing boundaries with Maceo.
In a court filing, Berry argued that allowing Maceo to testify could harm his emotional well-being and damage his relationships with both parents. However, Martinez claimed that their son wants to speak directly to the court and believes that his account will help the judges understand what happened.
Maceo's testimony is strictly limited to the restraining order request, and the judge warned that the teenager must not be coached. Berry and Martinez have been embroiled in a custody dispute since their separation in 2016, and this latest development adds another challenging chapter to their co-parenting relationship.
The judge reminded both parents that existing court orders remain in effect, including restrictions on discussing custody issues and court filings with their son. This new development highlights the complexities of the situation and raises questions about how the court will proceed with Maceo's testimony.
